Vinyasa yoga on BrewDog Upmister's epic rooftop. Make sure to bring your yoga mat, sunglasses and hopefully some sun cream!

HOW TO FIND US
These sessions are held on the roof of BrewDog in Upminster, head to the main entrance and up the stairs: 18 Station Road, Upminster, RM14 2UD. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before.

 HOW TO BOOK

  • You must pre-book – Rooftop Yoga is very popular, we only have a limited number of spaces and classes fill up quickly.

  • Please contact us with any booking enquiries. Every person attending must have their own MINDBODY account with A Fine Balance and have booked online in advance.  

WHAT TO BRING

  • Please bring your own yoga mat to use - there will not be mats there. Props are not provided on the roof.

  • If it is sunny – sunnies and sunscreen.

  • If it is cool – layers to keep warm.

  • Bring your own water bottle too.

  • Belongings should be kept with you and placed neatly in a pile next to your mat.

  • You are welcome to take photos but phones must be switched off / put on silent and put away during the session.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?
The class will be cancelled and the class credit will be added back to your MINDBODY account to book another rooftop session with us.

You will be notified by email up to one hour before the start of class if it is cancelled. Please ensure you check your email for confirmation the class is going ahead.

This Beginners Yoga Course takes place in Upminster.

It will help you to build an understanding of the general principles of Yoga.

Over the 6 weeks, you will gain insight into basic postures (asana), breathing (pranayama), bandhas (energy locks), drishti (gaze points), philosophy and relaxation (meditation).

The course will be based on the Vinyasa Flow style of yoga where you will explore sequences of movements such as ‘sun salutations’, as well as standing and sitting postures.

This course is suitable for absolute beginners and also for those who want to return to the basics.

DAY RETREAT - Yoga + hilltop bathing to find balance in life

Join Hannah, founder of A Fine Balance, for a day retreat to find balance at Paus in Cambridge.  Only 50 minutes drive from Dunmow and 1 hour 5 minutes from Upminster.

The day will begin with our welcome circle, and extended vinyasa yoga, yin yoga and yoga nidra practices themed around finding balance in life.  

This will be followed by a stroll around the wonderful Paus grounds to experience the barefoot sensory walk to ground and connect with nature.

We will then enjoy a nourishing 3-course vegetarian lunch at the Hilltop Bistro restaurant.

Our day concludes with three wonderful hours to relax on the Hilltop Bathing area with a complimentary drink. You can bathe in the wood-fired hot tubs, enjoy the Finnish barrel saunas and take a dip in the cold pools. 

You will leave feeling a sense of balance and connection to yourself, nature and new friends. 

The retreat day is suitable for everyone from beginners to regular practitioners.

Where Winter was a lot about rest, restoration, and contemplation, Spring differs in that it has an accelerating energy that can drive us into creativity and growth - if we let it. In this workshop we will learn about Nature’s wisdom and how our bodies hold this same wisdom as we, too, are nature.

We will practice leaning into this wisdom, particularly the Wood element, through meditation and mantra, as well as a longer yin yoga practice which will have an embodied approach with a focus on somatics within the postures.

After emerging from these spiritual practices, there will be some time for journaling and sharing our experiences with each other.

The human misery we are seeing unfold in Israel and Gaza is devastating and can understandably leave us feeling helpless as a community.

Join Nicola and Gemma, and come together as our community, to raise funds for the British Red Cross who are on the ground offering humanitarian support in Israel and Gaza where people are in desperate need of help. All money raised will be donated directly to the Red Cross via our justgiving page.

An alternative way to spend your Friday night, a very special 90-minute session crafted to offer grounding, balance and peace as you wind down your week. A timely pause as we witness what is happening in the world right now.

  1. Feel the special energy and power of our collective community as Nicola guides you through 45 minutes of chanting, meditation and mindful movement.

As we transition from the warmth of summer to the cooler days of autumn, our bodies and minds naturally seek balance and grounding.

In traditional Chinese medicine, autumn is represented by the Metal element, and the lungs and the large intestine, as well as the emotions of grief and nostalgia.

It is a time when leaves fall to the ground, decompose and create a fertile ground ready for the growth of spring.  The human body naturally follows suit... it wants to hunker down and let go. 

We will move through yin yoga poses to support the Metal element within, and the Lung and Large Intestine meridians related to the autumn season.

These meridians are particularly active during Autumn. By understanding their influence on our physical and emotional well-being we can attune to the season’s energy, promoting overall harmony, relaxation, and well-being.

Join us for this empowering 2-hour Strength and Conditioning Yoga Workshop, where you'll develop the strength, technique, and confidence to elevate your practice and explore the joy of inversions! Whether you're seeking to improve your existing inversions or attempting them for the first time, this workshop will support your journey towards mastering headstand, handstand, and pincha (forearm stand). 

Duration: 2 hours (intensive session)
Intensity: Intermediate (prior yoga experience recommended)

Warm-Up:
We'll begin with a brief warm-up to activate and prepare the body for the upcoming inversions. This will include gentle stretches for the shoulders, wrists, hamstrings, and core activation exercises.

Alignment and Technique:
Next, we'll break down the proper alignment and technique to safely work towards each inversion: headstand, handstand, and pincha. 

Strength-Building Exercises:
We will focus on specific strength-building exercises to target the muscles necessary for maintaining stability during inversions. We will emphasise core strength, shoulder stability, and forearm engagement.

Practice and Modifications:
Participants will have the opportunity to practice headstand, handstand, and pincha with the guidance of the Jodie. Modifications will be offered to cater to different levels of experience and ability.

  • Headstand: Supported headstand and variations, including tripod headstand.

  • Handstand: Wall-supported handstand and stag-leg handstand.

  • Pincha: Forearm balance with props for support and stability.

Cool Down and Relaxation:
To conclude the workshop, we will ease the body and mind with gentle stretches and relaxation techniques. This will help release tension in the shoulders, neck, and wrists after the inversions.

Preparation and Requirements:

  • Yoga Experience: Participants should have prior yoga experience, preferably with some exposure to basic inversions or arm balances.

  • Physical Readiness: This workshop requires a moderate level of physical fitness. Participants should be free from any injuries or health conditions that might hinder their ability to perform inversions.

  • Props: Mats and props (blocks or straps) will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own if preferred.

  • Positive Attitude: An open mind, a willingness to challenge oneself, and a positive attitude are essential for the best learning experience.
